How to submit

The process

Send it over

Submit your writing as per the Guidelines in PDF or Google Doc format.

We review

WIUI will review your writing and contact you through email if we decide to publish your submission.

Edits, maybe

We will mention if the draft requires editing and adjustments.

It goes up

Once it's done, we will inform you when it will be posted.

Writing guidelines

  1. The length of your submission should not exceed 9 paragraphs, with each paragraph containing a maximum of 150 words.
  2. Keep in mind that each paragraph will be turned into one slide, and write your submission with this in mind.
  3. Don't forget to title your submission! This will be used as the content to slide one.
  4. We accept 🔥hot takes🔥 in your opinion pieces, but you are still encouraged to back your opinions with reliable citations and data.
  5. Please list your sources as a bibliography at the end of your writing. Do NOT footnote!
  6. Your submission needs to be written as an individual, not as a representative of an organization.

Topics guidelines

  1. Topics should be written from your own Point of View (POV), and it can be written in the first person's POV or third person's POV.
  2. You can choose any topic related to Indonesia's social, political, economical, or cultural issues.
  3. Although we will post specific topics periodically on our Instagram story, feel free to write about other topics.

Crediting you as a writer

There's four ways you can be credited, please indicate it on the form:

  1. Name, Profession, and collab-post between your account and WIUI
  2. Name, Profession, and Tagged
  3. Name, Profession, No Tag
  4. Anonymous, only a description (eg. A diaspora who is studying cybersecurity in Germany, a highschooler living in Bali, etc.)

FAQs

When can I expect to hear back from WIUI after I submit the form?

Give us about 1 week, but depending on the team's availability, post pipelines, and your topics, it may take longer. Sadly, we can't give you a precise deadline :( but feel free to shoot us an email to ask about your submission.

Can I submit more than one writing?

Absolutely!

Can I submit an old writing, maybe from an old school assignment?

Yes.

Is it okay if I submit a writing that's already been published somewhere else?

Not recommended, but if it's okay with the prior publisher, then it should be okay. Please indicate this on the form!

Can I opt to be anonymous?

Yes! See the part on crediting.

Does it have to be in English?

Yes, any writing that you submit will have to be in English.

Can I represent my organization or institution in writing my piece?

No, because this collaboration is for individuals only. This opportunity is voluntary, therefore should NOT be commercial or an endorsement to a certain organization, event, or project.

If I don't hear back from WIUI, can I publish my writing somewhere else?

Of course! Your writing will still belong to you, so you reserve the rights to do with it as you please. However, if we may suggest, give WIUI about 1-2 weeks to respond before publicizing somewhere else just to be sure.
